About this project

Elbaz Construction framed and finished this elevated rear deck to span the width of the home, connecting a single exterior door to a full sliding glass door entrance so both openings share one continuous outdoor landing. The decking runs in straight parallel boards and was finished with a rich reddish-brown semi-transparent stain that saturates the wood grain and gives the whole structure a uniform, freshly sealed look.

A run of wood stairs steps down from the deck to the concrete patio below, flanked on both sides by handrails built from the same stock as the deck's perimeter railing. That railing is assembled from horizontal slat balusters between square posts, giving clear sightlines to the yard while still enclosing the platform. Underneath, the deck's support framing is boxed in with diagonal lattice skirting, closing off the crawl space beneath the structure for a finished appearance from every angle.

The finished deck now serves as a functional transition space at the back of the house, wide enough to hold potted plants and a decorative bird-feeder stand along its edge, with the stair landing opening directly onto the existing concrete patio and side yard, where a storage shed and mature landscaping frame the space.
