Briny Breezes began in the 1920s as a small oceanfront subdivision, but it became Florida’s original trailer park during the Depression, when its owner started renting tourists space for travel trailers at three dollars a week; the community incorporated as its own town in 1963 with a cooperative ownership structure, in which residents collectively own the land beneath their homes, and is believed to be Florida’s only oceanfront mobile home park. Because of that compact, shared-land layout, most construction here is modest in scope: additions, decks, carports, and hurricane shutters built for a home just steps from the Atlantic.
