What makes a steam shower different to build?

A steam shower is a sealed, vapor-tight room. The ceiling is tiled and sloped so condensation runs down the wall, not onto you. The enclosure goes to the ceiling with a sealed door, and a steam generator sits close by with its own power. Waterproofing is more demanding than for a regular shower.

What does a floor-mounted tub filler need?

The pipes rise through the floor, so the supply and the drain location are set before the subfloor is closed. On a slab, that may mean cutting and patching. The filler must also line up with the tub, which means choosing the tub first. A wall-mounted filler is simpler to move later.

Can plaster-look walls go in a wet area?

Only with a system rated for water. Plaster-look porcelain or a sealed microcement over a waterproof membrane works in a shower. Standard plaster does not. In a steam room, we tile or use an approved coating. We confirm the product and the substrate with the supplier before committing to the finish.

Can a dark marble bath work in a small room?

Yes, with light. Dark stone absorbs it, so plan layered lighting: cove or ceiling lighting, a backlit mirror and sconces at face height. A glossy floor bounces light back. Without those layers, a dark room feels smaller. We work out the lighting plan before the stone is ordered.

Is a heated floor worth it in South Florida?

It is a comfort feature rather than a necessity. Mornings are rarely cold, but stone and large tile can feel cool, especially in an air-conditioned room, and a heated floor also helps tile dry after a shower. It is an electric mat under the tile with its own thermostat and GFCI protection.

Should I choose the stone slab myself?

For natural stone, yes. Veining varies from slab to slab, and a pattern that suits a wall can look wrong on a floor. We go to the stone yard with you, mark the cuts and plan how adjacent pieces match. Slabs take weeks to arrive, so we order before demolition starts.

Does a stone floor in an upper-floor unit need sound control?

Often. Condo associations commonly require a minimum impact sound rating for hard flooring, and a thin underlayment keeps noise from the unit below. Ask the association for its rule early, because it changes the floor build-up and the height at the threshold. We build the rating into the floor assembly.

Can a wine fridge or other appliance go in a bathroom?

It can, with planning. The fridge needs a dedicated circuit, GFCI protection and ventilation behind it, and it should sit outside the shower splash zone. Humidity can rust the exterior, so choose a rated model. The nook is framed before drywall and wired to suit.

Glass that sits flat.

Luxury bathroom remodelling across South Florida. The finishes are what you see; the waterproofing, the falls and the setting-out are what decide whether the room still looks like this in ten years. We do both, and we do them in that order.

Questions we are actually asked

The programme is driven less by the tiling than by three fixed waits: the waterproofing flood test, material lead times on porcelain and brassware, and the glass, which cannot even be templated until the tiling is finished. We give a written programme for your specific bathroom with those gaps shown rather than quoting a general figure.

Usually yes. Moving supply or waste pipework, altering electrical circuits, adding extraction or changing a wall all normally require permits. A like-for-like fixture swap in the same positions often does not. In a condominium the association's own approval process runs alongside the municipal one and is frequently the longer of the two.

Yes, and it is the one stage we will not skip. The membrane is plugged and filled and left, typically overnight. It is the only point in the build where a waterproofing defect is cheap to find. In a condominium, where your floor is someone else's ceiling, it also protects you from a claim that is far more expensive than the test.

If you want the genuine depth of stone and accept sealing and careful cleaning, marble is the real thing and nothing quite replaces it. If you want the look without etching from cosmetics, sealing cycles or acid sensitivity, large-format porcelain is the better engineering answer — and in a wet room we recommend it more often than not.

Frameless glass is templated from the finished tiled surfaces, because a millimetre of bow in a wall becomes a visible gap at the seal. That means it cannot be measured from a drawing or ordered in advance. The gap between tiling finishing and glass arriving is real and we show it in the programme.

Often yes, but it depends on the floor depth available for the waste run and the fall. That is one of the first things we check at survey, because it decides whether the layout you want is possible at all rather than being a finishing detail.

More than chrome does, particularly with hard water. A quality PVD finish resists wear well, but it will still spot if left wet. Wiping down and avoiding abrasive cleaners is the whole maintenance routine, and most clients find it a fair trade for the look.

Extraction ducted to outside and actually used, silicone corners renewed every few years before they fail, and a squeegee on the glass. Humidity is the thing that degrades paint, timber vanities and grout in South Florida, and ventilation is by far the cheapest protection available.

Why bring the bathroom to us

Licensed general contractor

CBC1265280 — licensed, bonded and insured, and accountable for the waterproofing as well as the finish.

We flood test, every time

The membrane is proven with water before a single tile goes down, and the result is recorded.

Waterproofing and tiling under one contract

The people forming the falls and the people laying the porcelain answer to the same job, so nobody inherits somebody else's substrate.

Setting-out before ordering

Coursing, niche heights and cut positions are planned on paper first, which is why cuts land where they should.

Condo experience

Association approvals, lift protection, working hours and protection of common areas across the tri-county area are routine for us.

Trade sequencing

Plumbing, electrical, extraction, tiling, glass and furniture sequenced properly, including the template gap on the glass.

Accessibility built in quietly

Blocking for grab rails and benches costs almost nothing at framing and is very expensive to add later.

Documented handover

Tile references, grout colour, brassware models and the glass supplier handed over as one file.

Needed remodeling of my master bathroom in my house. After calling around and dealing with a bunch of unexperienced companies I found Elbaz construction and gave them a call. Just from the ease of communication and friendly talk I've had with the owner I knew this was going to be the company I was going to hire.
