Pergola Installation

About this project

Elbaz Construction designed and built this stand-alone pergola as a dedicated outdoor living structure at the edge of a backyard pool. The four-post frame is finished in a matte black aluminum with a solid, flat roof panel rather than an open lattice or louvered top, giving the structure a clean, modern silhouette that reads more like an outdoor room than a traditional wood arbor. Because it's fully freestanding, the pergola isn't tied into the house at all — it stands independently on the pool deck, framing the water on its own footprint.

The build integrates real electrical and lighting work into the structure itself. The underside of the roof houses multiple recessed can lights alongside two black ceiling fans with light kits, giving the space both airflow and even overhead illumination after dark. Each of the four corner posts carries a vertical LED light tube wired into a color-changing system — shown glowing magenta in one set of photos and shifting to cyan/teal in another, confirming a programmable RGB accent feature rather than a fixed color. At dusk, with the recessed lights, fans, and post lighting all running together, the pergola functions as a fully finished outdoor lighting fixture, not just a shade structure.

The pergola sits at the corner of a rectangular pool finished with a light gray, large-format paver deck, backed by a horizontal wood slat privacy fence and mature palm and tropical landscaping along the property line. Pool equipment — pump and heater — is tucked to one side near the fence line, kept out of the main sightline from the pergola and pool. Together, the structure, lighting, and surrounding hardscape create a private, resort-style backyard space built for evening use around the water.
